The BSS 285 series fuse switch for panel mounting at 80A is a robust and reliable solution for protecting electrical systems onboard boats and other vehicles. It is designed as a direct replacement for the 185 series and offers improved functionality with a visible reset lever that clearly shows if the switch has tripped.
The fuse switch is ignition protected and meets the requirements of SAE J1171, making it safe to use in gasoline-powered boats. It is also weather-resistant and designed to withstand marine environments. With combined functionality as both a switch and a fuse, it provides a space-saving and effective protection in the electrical system.
The switch is type III – which means it has manual reset and is "trip free," meaning it cannot be held closed if a fault occurs. This provides an extra layer of safety during overload.
With a capacity of 80A and a maximum voltage of 48V DC, it is ideal for both 12V and 24V systems. It uses thermally responsive bimetal technology and has M6 terminals that fit 1/4" ring cable lugs. Mounting is easy via panel, and the terminals should be tightened with a torque of 5.65 Nm.
The high breaking capacity of 3000A at 48V (tested according to SAE J1625) makes it a safe choice even in systems with high fault current potential. It operates in a temperature range from -40°C to +85°C and weighs only 0.23 kg.
