The CAN-bus temperature sensor is an important component for systems with Buck-Boost DC/DC converters and LFP lithium batteries. It ensures that the batteries are charged safely at low temperatures by regulating the charging current. If the temperature drops below 5°C, charging decreases, and at 0°C it stops completely to protect the battery from damage.
The sensor measures the battery temperature and sends the information via CAN-bus to the Buck-Boost DC/DC converter, which adjusts the charging based on the temperature. This is especially important for LiFePO4 batteries, which can be damaged if charged at too low temperatures. The sensor can also be connected to Victron devices such as Multi or Quattro, allowing them to also adjust charging at low temperatures.
The sensor has the capacity to regulate charging depending on the temperature and is necessary for LiFePO4 batteries used with Buck-Boost converters. It works with Buck-Boost converters, Multi, Quattro, and Venus GX and monitors battery temperature via CAN-bus. It operates with a voltage of 4-36 VDC, consumes 60 mA at 13.6V, and has LED indicators as well as an alarm output that can shut off heavy users at low temperatures.
The CAN-bus temperature sensor is necessary to protect lithium batteries at low temperatures and ensures that the batteries are charged safely and efficiently in all conditions.
