Argodiode 80-2AC is a separation diode that allows simultaneous charging of two separate battery groups from a generator or battery charger, without these battery groups being connected together. This ensures that the discharge of a consumer battery does not affect the starter battery, which is important to maintain the starter battery's capacity.
Argodiode 80-2AC differs through its low voltage drop thanks to the use of Schottky diodes, which means that the voltage drop is only 0.2-0.3 V at low current and up to 0.45 V at maximum load. A compensation diode is also included to raise the output voltage of the generator or battery charger, which compensates for the voltage drop and ensures optimal battery charging.
Some generators need a direct current signal on the B+ output to be able to start charging. Normally, direct current is supplied when the generator is directly connected to a battery, but by inserting a diode or a FET splitter between the generator and the battery, return current from the battery to B+ is prevented, which means the generator cannot start.
The new “AC” diode isolator solves this problem with a specially designed current-limited input amplifier, which means that the B+ output receives sufficient current to start charging when the engine switch is activated. This guarantees that charging can be initiated and maintained efficiently without the need for direct connection to the battery.
