The Galvanic Isolator VDI-32 A is a reliable solution to prevent electrolytic corrosion that can occur when low DC currents are conducted into your boat via the shore power line. These unwanted currents can cause corrosion on important metal parts underwater, such as the hull, propeller, and shafts.
This isolator blocks these low currents by using two diodes connected in an antiparallel manner. The diodes only allow current to pass when the voltage exceeds a certain threshold, about 1.4 Vdc, which prevents smaller voltage differences between metals from causing corrosion.
The VDI-32 A is installed directly behind the boat's 230V outlet and effectively prevents electrolytic current under normal conditions. If a higher fault voltage occurs in the AC circuit, the diodes allow current to flow, enabling the ground fault circuit breaker to activate and break the circuit, ensuring safety.
