The Orion-Tr Smart 48/12-20A Isolated is a DC-DC charger that receives 48V from the input and delivers 12V with an output power of 240W and a maximum current of 20A. It functions both as an efficient battery charger and as a stable power source, making it particularly suitable for systems where you want to charge a 12V service battery from a 48V battery or electrical system – for example in industrial applications, special vehicles, marine installations, and off-grid systems.
The charger is designed to handle varying input voltages and also works during voltage drops, ensuring stable charging regardless of whether conditions are not entirely ideal. This makes it perfect in environments where reliable power supply is crucial.
An isolated charger has galvanic isolation between the input and output, which means there is no direct electrical connection between them. This reduces the risk of interference, protects the equipment, and improves safety in systems with multiple grounding points – something that is especially important in, for example, boats, motorhomes, and industrial installations.
With built-in Bluetooth, the charger can easily be monitored and configured via the VictronConnect app on your smartphone or tablet. The app gives you quick access to real-time data, settings, and any alarms – all without needing to connect physically.
The Orion-Tr Smart uses an adaptive three-stage charging algorithm – bulk, absorption, and float – which automatically adjusts the charging according to battery type and condition. It is compatible with both lead-acid and lithium batteries, and you can also choose to use a fixed output voltage if desired.
The charger is protected against short circuits, overheating, and incorrect connections. At high temperatures, the current is automatically reduced to protect both the unit and the battery. The IP43 rating makes the unit durable in tough environments, especially if mounted with the screw connections facing downwards.
Multiple units can be connected in parallel to increase the total output current, making the Orion-Tr Smart very flexible even in larger systems. The unit also has a remote on/off input, making it easy to turn the charger on or off via, for example, the ignition or an external switch.
